A little bit of explanation clears a big lot of misunderstanding. Half of the world's troubles could be solved if people would pause and thing what they were quarrelling about. And so it was with Shyam's affectionate guardians.
Leelavati and Ramprasad had never agreed with each other on any subject and the search for a suitable bride for their England returned doctor nephew, Shyam, found them disagreeing more violently than ever.
Leelavati made her choice when she was introduced to a beautiful young girl volunteer at an election campaign, but Ramprasad had other ideas. His school fiend Kidarnath's daughter, whom he accidentally met for the first time since he had seen her as a baby, was the ideal bride for Shyam.
Torn between his two dearest relatives Shyam knew he could not make a decision without deeply offending one of them and he quietly slipped off to Darjeeling to let things cool off.
Just as the train was pulling out of Sealdah Station, (Calcutta) to his surprise he finds a girl in his compartment and Shyam felt then and there that he must make this girl his own. The girl did not welcome the attentions of the stranger but Shyam was not discouraged. After reaching Darjeeling he did everything possible to win her heart.
Shyam's one great problem was his guardians. Neither his uncle nor his aunt would accept his choice in preference to their own. They had already learnt of his presence in Darjeeling and were coming to take him home. Things might have been very simple if all of them had only known that each had independently selected the same girl, Malti.
Events moved fast in the cool clime of the charming hill station Darjeeling as Malti and Shyam fell deeply in love with each other. Meanwhile Kidarnath manages to locate the whereabouts of his daughter with the aid of the police.
Malti and Shyam escape with the police close on their trail. What happens next is best seen on the screen as the story approaches its hilarious climax.
